I’ve finally decided to take a Sabbatical.

No, not from my workplace. Thought that would be awesome if I could get paid while doing it but that’s not going to happen. Though it would be pretty awesome.

Nonetheless, I am taking a sabbatical from church. I’ve served at GCFP for over 7 years. Actually almost about to be 8. I should have taken a Sabbatical starting last October but due to some circumstances at church I decided that its best if I continued to serve. In a way, I am glad I did as we were able to get some awesome events conducted during that time. However, at the moment, I am completely out of energy both mentally and physically therefore I cannot continue to serve to my fullest.

I am blessed that there are others at church that can take on the many hats that I held onto.

In a way, its tough to take this Sabbatical since a part of me still wants to continue to serve and I don’t like the fact that I have to burden the remaining people. Especially considering that we only have a few people that really dedicate their time, hearts, and efforts fully towards the church on a weekly basis. :sigh: Hope more people can step in and help during this time and hopefully for long term. So down the road I can come back and serve only where I need to. Or maybe even just enjoy the service in peace :).

Not sure how long this Sabbatical is going to take but one thing I do know is that I don’t know how to “NOT” do anything. aka rest! How do you rest? I find it tough. I can easily make a to do list of things that need to be done. But to come up with a list of nothing thats tough, especially when there are millions of things that need to be done. Whether its at church, at home, at work, etc. I guess it could even be a priority issue. As in, I don’t know how to prioritize whats important and what’s not.

One of the books I have decided to finally start reading is “The Rest of God” by Mark Buchanan. It was a book that I wanted to read after graduating from Drexel. Mainly because I wanted to be faithful to the Sunday Sabbath without it being an overbearment on my life. As in enjoying the REST of the Sabbath rather than legalizing it to be some ritual that I must observe. Well sad to say that that book has been sitting on a bookshelf with its friends for years. But now I finally have some time to read it. And thankfully there is a section in there where the Author who is a pastor takes a Sabbatical from the church. Which made me feel a little better about myself since I knew this wasn’t something completely sacrilegious. But one point he made was that alot of time he would get into a position where he would recklessly serve. And I think thats the point where I might be at right now. That I recklessly serve. Yes, I can do alot of things and can serve in areas outside of my comfort zone but that doesn’t mean I should. And who knows, I am probably taking away someone elses ability to grow.

Its true that they say to “be careful what you wish for”. I wanted to take this break for a while and now that I am on it, its tough because I don’t know where and what I will be doing in these months and if I will even be in the area. So kinda sad that I have to take a break. And also sad that I may not be in this area anymore. We shall see. We shall see.

Minor Prophets

So I have decided to study the minor prophets. My knowledge of those minor prophets is very limited. Thus, I have decided to study the minor prophets and get more out of the Bible from taking a bite out of the book rather than hammering away and trying to finish it off in a year.

So keep coming back to see what I’ve learned from these minor prophets

To start of : Minor Prophets are called Minor because of the content length of those books. Not because the Minor Prophet is irrelevant or “minor” .

A year later

Wow! I honestly thought that I would write alot. OK. Maybe not alot but definitely more than 2 posts. Oh well!

Well lets see I have finally gotten on a roll with paying off my school and auto loan debt. I have a long way to go and I really need to get on a repayment plan that is higher than paying the bare minimum. Though I have to say its easier said than done mainly because there are still so many outstanding things I want done at home. Such as get a new walk-in Shower installed and get new couches. Both which are equally pricey!

One of the main things that is just troubling for me right now is my health. Allergies are killing me, or is it my heartburn, or is it my SI joint? Its probably all of them and it sucks! Though I should say that because of my dust mite allergies I have actually started to have an eye for cleaning. In the past few months I have been able to find large amounts of dust in some neglected areas in our house such as this space near an exhaust fan in my main bathroom and between the heating radiators in the house. It is amazing the amount of dust that manages to harbor itself in various areas of the home. But I haven’t stopped at dust, in fact I have started a cleaning revolution at my house in the last few weeks. From starting pest control services (can’t believe I didn’t call them earlier) to researching which products work best for cleaning various parts of your home (I have posted some at the bottom of this post). All of this to say that I am learning the principle of focusing on the surrounding causes than targeting the byproducts. Meaning that instead of focusing my energy on limiting the effects of allergies, such as a clogged and runny nose, I should focus on removing the causes of the dust. But again easily said and hard to do.

So here are some tools to make your cleaning life easier and effective!

To remove burnt-on grease :

Easy-Off Heavy-Duty Oven Cleaner : Probably the best trick I learned! This thing totally works and removes burnt on grease easily! The fumes are pretty strong so you should definitely invest in some form of mask and gloves. And also dont spray even by accident onto your stainless steel appliances. Besides that this thing works!

To remove soap-scum :

Scrubbing Bubbles : So easy! Spray and wait three minutes! Chances are the soap scum is gone but still spray water everywhere.

Stainless-Steel cleaner/shiner :

WD-40. Yupp! Wd-40. It apparently does a pretty good job at cleaning up stainless-steel. Found this little trick online 🙂

Those are the only best tools/tricks I have now. The rest are still in research. The more I learn the more I will post.

So far so good :D

As you may recall. Few months ago I had created a list of some life-changing, if not, various events that will take place in my life. Though I haven’t really kept my word as far as updating the blog, I have managed to check-off many of the items on the list.

    * Graduating from Drexel University ✔
    * Traveling to Bahamas, Florida, and Costa Rica ✔
    * Starting a job/career as a Java programmer ✔
    * Getting a new car, potentially the Q5 or maybe the A4(s-line) ✔
    * Getting a private pilots license (@NE Airport)
    * Getting certified in Java (this one will take some time)
    * Working out and getting Abs (def. will take time, but I have no excuses for why I shouldn’t get built)

There are still three items that I need to work on.

One of the items I still need to check off is obtaining a private pilots license, which I most likely wont obtain till next year since I don’t think I want to fly in the cold (not sure if they have heaters in those planes…, they probably do though). Nonetheless, I am preparing for this item by buying a yoke so that I can learn how to properly steer and stabilize the airplane in MS Flight Simulator. And I am happy to say that with the yoke I can finally land on a runway without crashing :D.

Second item is to get certified in Java. This is one item that I am not too interested in achieving immediately. Mainly because it requires me to learn a whole lot of material and learning it at a rapid pace will just bring back the stress that I faced at school. Truth be told, I want to take a little break from studying and just enjoy a little bit of free time while I still have it.

Third item is to get abs. This one is going to take some time but I am glad to say that I have started to go on a regular schedule rather than just go once a quarter. I tend to go with Maneesh since we both work in the same complex and since we started Bally’s together. Right now I am working on my triceps and chest since that is what David has taught me. But down the road I want to focus on my core.

I cant really end this blog post until I at least describe some of the accomplishments thus far. Well let see, I finally graduated from Drexel University with everything I had planned for and worked hard for in the last five years. Though, I should really say four years since I didn’t really get my act together until sophmore year. Thankfully, I was able to obtain enough tickets, to invite everyone that I wanted in attendance for my graduation ceremony, and thankfully they all did attend.

The next day, Mario, Martin, Tim, and I departed for Florida for our Graduation vacation. The trip was fantastic. I would describe everything but I wrote everything I did in my travel journal, just so that I dont forget anything. But in a nutshell, the trip was full of vibrant colors, exotic places, amazing and full of adrenaline adventures in Costa Rica and soaking wet thrill rides at Atlantis Water Park. The cruise was amazing and offered the ultimate package by completing the Land, Sea, and Air adventure. Best part of the cruise was definitely the starry night and the amazing food.

I have started working at NetIDEAS Incorporated and so far I am really enjoying the company. The people are great and I like the work that I am doing and excited about whats coming down the road. It will be tough but I will be able to learn.

Finally, I purchased a car, an Audi A4. This car is amazing to look at and amazing to drive. It is expensive but when else will I be able to enjoy a car like this? But I am really thankful that God created a way for me to obtain this car because this car is just amazing. Thanks!

Start of a new blog

So here I am on 5/25/2010 starting off a year of blogging? Maybe?
Anyway, I got a practically free one year domain name. So I thought, why not? Let’s try to blog.

Now that I think about it, it will actually be beneficial. Hopefully with free-writing (not sure if you call it that) I will be able to improve my writing. Plus the amount of things that are about to happen in my life are astounding and life-changing (using adverbs help make your sentence sound cooler, learning (:)

So here are some of the potential life changing event that are about to take place

  • Graduating from Drexel University
  • Traveling to Bahamas, Florida, and Costa Rica
  • Starting a job/career as a Java programmer
  • Getting a new car, potentially the Q5 or maybe the A4(s-line)
  • Getting a private pilots license (@NE Airport)
  • Getting certified in Java (this one will take some time)
  • Working out and getting Abs (def. will take time, but I have no excuses for why I shouldn’t get built)
